Wallhangings

If you live in Wales you cannot escape the myth and legend that surround you. This is a land of magic in many senses of the word. My wallhangings are inspired by the voices in the landscape, by the work of Welsh poets like R.S. Thomas and by early Celtic beliefs. I use a variety of Creative Embroidery techniques on woven or hand-felted wool bases. If I have a trademark, it is in attaching beads and found objects alongside knotted stitches to form areas of rich texture that make you want to reach out and touch them.  As a proponent of the transience of Textile Art, I encourage this in my own exhibitions which are often held outdoors so that the hangings weather naturally.

In the gallery of pictures, I have given the title of each piece together with information about its source of inspiration. Click on any image to open the gallery.

My latest work is called ‘Etifeddiaeth’ and is inspired by the ancient Welsh epic ‘Heledd’s Lament’.
