There’s always something else …

One of the things that a lifestyle of simple living and self reliance teaches you is how to cope with the unpredictable.  This is mainly done by laughing in the face of adversity and always finding time to sit down and have a cup of tea with friends.  So far this year we’ve had a new roof put on an ageing house, coped with a lambing season that went on for closer to 6 months than its usual 6 weeks and defied a cold, wet spring that has been followed by a cold, wet summer to force a harvest out of our vegetable garden.

At various points along the way I’ve been out doing my bit supporting a variety of events.  From being part of the core volunteer team at my local park run to getting soaked to the skin manning a drinks station in monsoon conditions at the Merthyr Mawr Trail Running Festival  to compering a fashion show at Wonderwool Wales , I find that event support is one of the best ways to bring all of my creative thinking, planning and coping skills together in a single feel-good activity. It was because I was up at silly o’clock in the morning to marshal the Tuska Tri that I managed to get this wonderful photograph of a canoeist at dawn.  There is always something else …
